Plain-language definitions of the fleet telematics terms that show up across the platform.
- ADAS & DMS ADAS warns drivers of road hazards using sensors and cameras; DMS monitors driver attention with an infrared camera. Together they cut accident risk in fleets.
- CAN bus The CAN bus (Controller Area Network) is the in-vehicle network over which ECUs exchange data: the primary source of vehicle data for fleet telematics.
- Digital tachograph A digital tachograph records driving time, breaks and rest periods electronically. The G2V2 smart version adds GNSS border logging and 56-day memory.
- driver card (tachograph) A driver card is a personal chip card for the digital tachograph. It records driving time, breaks and rest; EU rules require downloads every 28 days.
- Driver working time Driver working time is the time a professional driver spends driving and on other duties, recorded by a tachograph under EU 561 and the Mobility Package.
- e-TOLL e-TOLL is Poland's satellite-based road toll system for vehicles over 3.5 t GVW and buses. It replaced viaTOLL in 2021 and bills tolls from live GPS position.
- ETA (estimated time of arrival) ETA (estimated time of arrival) is the predicted delivery time of a truck, calculated from route, driver hour limits, stops and live traffic conditions.
- Freight forwarding Freight forwarding is the organisation of goods transport on behalf of a shipper: carrier selection, documentation, customs and route planning.
- Geofencing Geofencing draws virtual zones on a digital map in a GPS system and triggers automatic alerts when a vehicle enters or leaves a defined area.
- Telematics Telematics combines telecommunications and IT to collect vehicle data via GPS, CAN bus and sensors, giving fleet operators real-time visibility.
- Telemetry Telemetry is the automatic measurement and wireless transmission of data from remote sources: in fleets, vehicle position, CAN bus and sensor readings.
- TPMS TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) uses valve or in-tyre sensors to monitor tyre pressure and temperature, catching failures before a roadside breakdown.
- TSL sector (transport, forwarding, logistics) The TSL sector covers transport, forwarding and logistics: the industry that moves, brokers and manages freight across road, rail, sea and air.
